Rifle Report: Kirk Would Benefit With A Big Man

55 wins (including playoffs). 55 victories as a result of solid D and countless pick-and-rolls, pick-and-pops, and drive-and-kick plays. However, as effective as it can be, a shooters legs can get tired and the shots wont go in. It's quite obvious the Bulls need a low-post threat to get to the next level. If there was any one player that would welcome such a player, it'd be Kirk Hinrich and you know it's true with all the missed shots Kirk had due to running around and chasing not only Rip Hamilton, but Chauncey Billups as well. This is a tough task for anyone, but when Kirk is asked to defend arguably the best backcourt duo in the NBA, then turnaround and be the team's 2nd or 3rd option on offense... the man isn't superman afterall.

Kirk has his faults, but after a disastrous NBA debut Kirk has become the heart and soul of this team that has been defined by hardwork, dedication, and stingy defense and his hardwork was rightfully acknowledged as he was selected to the 2nd Team All-Defensive Team. Like I said, Kirk isn't superman and asking him to defend, fascilitate, then SCORE... having a big man to feed in the post would lessen the scoring burden put on Kirk as well as Luol Deng and Ben Gordon.

The question, though, is whose out there to help Kirk and the Bulls? Lets take a look:

Free Agency?

Darko Milicic? Can't afford w/out a sign-and-trade. C-Webb? Who knows what his future has if Detroit wins it all. Some more reasonable free agents are far and few between. Melvin Ely? Michael Olawakandi? Only person on the free agency list that has any type of legit resume is a shell of his former self and trying to regain what all-star caliber he has left. Thats right, Jamaal Magloire. Next option please.

Trade?

KG? Jermaine Oneal? Z-Bo? Gasol? Lets not even go there... just remember, Pau has 0 playoff wins... Deng, 8. Lesser trades may be the way to go. Al Jefferson, maybe? Maybe an even lesser name. Primoz Brezec is a name to consider. Simply consider, since if anyone thinks Eddy Curry was heavy footed, then Brezec might as well be fitted for new cement shoes.

Draft?

Roy Hibbert? Spencer Hawes? Yi Jianlian? All three would be available, well at least one of the three would. Hibbert is probably the best defensive stalwart of the three. Hawes is the traditional post up guy. Yi is probably the Chinese Dirk. Who fits the best? Slight edge to hawes. But workouts will determine the draft, especially if the Bulls land a top three pick... then it's Oden, Durant, and Horford. We'll see Tuesday.

Internally?

Deng at the four? Tyrus developing some post up moves? Another year of improvement, its possible.

Regardless of how we do it, Kirk Hinrich is going to be a happy man when this low-post teammate finally joins the Bulls.

Playoff Seeding Change?

D-Wade. Shaq. T-Mac. Yao. Kobe. Dirk. Bosh. Melo. AI. Of these 9 men, one sticks out. Melo hasn’t been an All-Star yet. However, all 9 do have one thing in common. They’re watching the NBA semi-finals from home, or at least the front row.

Now there is talk about restructuring the playoffs next season after the Golden State Warriors did the unthinkable and not only beat a number one seed, they beat a number one seed that won 67 regular season games, but went 0-3 against this very same Golden State Warriors team. There’s the argument that Hockey does it, but last time anyone checked Hockey just isn’t the same since the season long lockout. The number one seed is supposed to win, as David Stern alluded to. The Detroit Pistons did, in fact, they swept their first round opponent mighty convincingly as well. The Pistons adjusted to their opponents, and have done so again as evident with the first game against the Bulls. Why couldn’t the Dallas Mavericks do the same? So if the ruling were to take into effect this year, it’d be Phoenix and golden State on one end and San Antonio and Utah on another. For arguments sake, one would ask if it’d really matter who the opponent was if the Warriors were able to beat the Mavericks. Why should it matter? If that’s the case, why not just open the playoffs to 20 teams instead. No one ever complains in the NCAA tournament. There’s always that “Cinderella Story” in the NCAA so why take it away from the Golden State Warriors. It makes for good headlines. Or is just because the league is going to be embarassed when they award Dirk Nowitski his MVP trophy that he’ll be in a suit, and not warmups.

DETROIT SHOWS THEIR POLISH BULLS DON’T SHOW AT ALL

demoralizing - destructive of morale and self-reliancedemoralising, disheartening, dispiritingdiscouraging - depriving of confidence or hope or enthusiasm and hence often deterring action

Deeeeetrooiiittt Basketttballllllll. I am going to hear that in my sleep tonight. 95-69 final score tonight. If you are Scot Skiles this is completely unacceptable. 3-30 from the field for the bulls bench. Atrocious. The Pistons imposed their will on Chicago tonight. Games like this a team has no choice but to look for moral victories but tonight I don’t think that they will find any. Out hustled. Out rebounded. The only thing the Bulls did better than Detroit tonight was lose. The Bulls are a solid basketball team but they just aren’t good enough to spot Detroit a win. The Pistons did everything right this evening and they should feel great about this result.

There are only a few things the Bulls can hang there hat on here.

1. They couldn’t possibly play any worse.
2. I am not sure the Pistons can play any better.

The bulls shot 64% from the line. 29% from 3. 33% from the field overall. This is piss poor and Chicago should be ashamed. Skiles should have them up early in the morning running wind sprints as punishment for this putrid performance. Ben Gordon was completely taken out of the game when he picked up his second foul early in the first quarter and was never able to recover. They will need serious contributions from him if they want a chance in game 2. This game should serve as motivation or else the Bulls will find themselves home rather quickly while Detroit plays on. The Bulls have the ability to turn this around they just need to execute. Easier said than done I know but a few more rebounds and a few less turnovers and this game could have swung the other way. Bottom line tonight the Bulls showed their inexperience while Detroit demonstrated why they have been consistently great these past few years. So Gordon you need to get some sleep, eat your wheaties, and forget this game ever took place.
